Hong Yuen Seafood

Went to try out the fishhead steamboat @ Blk 123 Yishun St 11 after surfers recommended this place. The Zi Char Stall is called Hong Yuen Seafood. When I asked the chef for permission to take the pic, he was pretty reluctant but later agreed to it after I told him I would be posting it online.

We ordered this Sweet and Sour Pork to supplement the fishhead steamboat. The serving was alot and it cost only $6.

Ordered this Kong Pow Diced Chicken Rice for my maid. She said it’s very very very delicious. haha Cost $4 for all these. It’s quite alot of chicken. Looks yummy too.
Here’s the famous fishhead steamboat. The amount of veg, yam slices, fried fishhead pieces and tofu were aplenty. The serving is enough to feed another 3 mre adults. It’s too much for us. Soup was flavourful and I have to say this one taste much better than the Tian Wai Tian Fishhead Steamboat. We loved the soup so much that we asked for more soup to be added. And the difference between Tian Wai Tian and Hong Yuen is that for soup topup here, the chef gives you the same thick soup base used to serve the intiial serving of the fishhead steamboat. For Tian Wai Tian, the soup top up is clear chicken/fish bone soup. Not so flavourful. Fishhead Steamboat cost $22. Uses Groupa.

Nice and Q Ang Ku Kueh from Bon Choix

Decided to get some Ang Ku Kuehs after packing my lunch at Amoy Food Centre after hearing rave reviews about it from my office cleaner auntie.

I decided to get 6 pcs of Ang Ku Kuehs as the stall is having a promo. If you buy 5 pcs, you get an extra pc of Ang Ku Kueh free. Each pc cost $0.60.

I bought 3 bean paste ones (the red ang ku kueh) and 3 bean paste with sweet corn flavoured ones (the yellow ang ku kueh)

See the skin of the ang ku kueh, it’s so thin and the filling is alot !!

The skin is quite nice to chew at. Very easy to bite. Very Q. I only use a plastic spoon to cut open the ang ku kueh. Did it without much difficulty and the skin did not even stick to the spoon.

Not too sweet also. And I love the one with sweet corn as compared to the bean paste one (shown below)

Muffins Muffins & more Muffins

went to queue for muffins from  Bake_of during lunch time. Wow… there were at least 7 persons queuing in front of me… waited at least 10-15 mins before I was served. The muffins smelled really nice… some were just out of the oven. Too bad the apple muffin is sold out by the time it’s my turn. The lady told me they are still baking some more in the oven and it’s not ready yet..

Han Kee Fish Soup @ Amoy Food Centre

Was having a bad bout of flu today. Decided to have something light and soupy today. Bought fish soup from Han Kee Fish Soup Stall at Amoy Food Centre. The fish slices do not have a fishy taste when you bite into it and the soup have a nice ‘sweet’ fresh fish taste. Felt so much better after finishing it.

If you decided to have fish soup for lunch from this stall, do go earlier as queue start to form as early as 11.30 am.

Yummy Muffins @ Amoy Hawker Centre

It is not very common to find a stall in a hawker centre selling muffins. But located on the second level of Amoy Hawker Centre is a muffin stall that sells freshly baked and very very delicious muffins. The stall not only sells a wide variety of muffins (eg cranberry, banana & walnut, blueberry, etc) but also very nice brownies too.

The muffins are sold at only $1 each and you see a long queue forming during lunch time to buy these muffins. The chef interviewed mentioned that they do not use butter to  bake their muffins and everything is freshly made daily.

I had a cranberry muffin for breakfast and it is full of cranberry bits inside. Also, it is not too sweet and goes down well with a cup of tea.

ABC Fruit Juice @ Amoy Hawker Centre

 

This fruit stall located on the 2nd level of Amoy Hawker Centre serves one of the freshest and juicest fruits around there. And it is value for money. For 50cents you can get a big slice of sweet juicy watermelon. I always buy this fruit juice called ABC – Apple, Beetroot, Carrot from the stall.

Thunder Tea Rice @ Amoy Hawker Centre

Had this Thunder Tea Rice from Amoy Hawker Centre. It’s located at level 1 of the food centre. This stall is famous for its thunder tea rice and there are always long queues formed during lunch hour.

The green green stuff is called thunder tea. It’s a sort of herb and I think they grind it to powder and mixed with water. My late-grandmother used this herb to boil into soup for us to drink. It’s supposed to cleanse your blood etc. Anyway not everyone likes this herbal taste but I am used to it. It’s nice.

The fried tofu stuffed with minced meat is nice too.

My Breakfast from Amoy Hawker Centre

Bought this super soft and delicious Chee Cheong Fun from Amoy Hawker Centre #01-30. Long queues to this stall form as early as 7.50 am. The stall not only sells Chee Cheong Fun but also hand-made soon kueh, pumpkin kueh and yam kueh. All taste so yummy. Esp the Pumpkin kueh, it is so soft and really melt in your mouth. Not too salty and it’s full of chopped pumpkin, mushrooms and dried shrimps. Yum yum
