Korean Lunch @ O Dae Yang

Was having lunch with Hyacinthus at this newly opened Korean Restaurant along Peck Seah Street.

The decor looks nice and the prices seems pretty reasonable so we decided to give it a try.

The restaurant was quite empty except for 8 Korean men having their lunch there.

After looking at their menu, Hyacinthus ordered a beef Bibimbak and Seafood Tofu Hotpot while I ordered a pork Bibimbak.

We were served some nice Korean Roasted Barley Tea and 8 dishes of appetistiers. These are complimentary.

I think they are very generous with their appetistiers. Some of which we had never tasted before.

This is the Fried Sliced Fish Omelette. It’s a cold dish. Taste quite nice and there is no fishy taste at all.

Fried Ikan Bilis and Peanuts with Sugar. I like this dish. Savoury and sweet at the same time. Yummy :)

Kimchi was ok. Hyacinthus said that the one she ate in Korean is nicer as it’s fresher and crunchier. But this one is not bad either.

Fried Bean Sprouts. Nothing special.

Preserved Kelp. Very refreshing in taste. Sourish with a tinge of saltiness. Not bad.

Boiled Spinach. Also we found this dish pretty ordinary too.

Pickled korean cucumbers. This dish is very refreshing too. The cucumber slices were crunchy and it tasted a little sourish.

Hyacinthus and I love this appetitiser dish the best. I think it’s marinated and cooked in sweet sauce. It tasted sweet and a little bit salty. Very very nice. Pretty unique appetitiser cos we never had this before at other Korean Restaurants.

Here comes my Pork Bibimbak. Comes with a bowl of soybean sprouts soup. We liked the soybean sprouts but the soup is only average in taste.

The pork slices were very tender and soft. Overall the taste was not bad

Here’s Hyacinthus’s Beef Bibimbak

After mixing up all the ingredients and the accompanying paste, the Bibimbak looks like this:

The utensils are so nicely wrapped in paper.

Seafood Tofu Soup. Tasted a little spicy. Eat it hot cos the taste would be better. Comes with mussels and some other seafood.

We were served complementary dessert too. Both of us really loved the dessert alot. Cool and refreshing with a tinge of lime taste. Really refreshing to have such a dessert esp on a hot day.

Total Cost of everything we ordered is:

Pretty reasonable. I think I would return to the O Dae Yang again. The other Korean restaurant (Sampo) that’s next to it don’t taste as nice and it’s more expensive. See my other review on Sampo

Seoul Yummy @ Square 2

ED gave the family a nice nice lunch treat at this Korean Restaurant at Square 2 on Sunday. It’s called Seoul Yummy. Tucked in a little discreet corner of Level 3.

There is this premium set lunch for 2 but we ordered ala carte instead

Ordered the Hotplate potato pancake. It taste a little crispy on the outside and very soft inside.

Cost is $4.80

You have to dip it in a sauce that comes with the pancake. Eat it hot cos it dun taste so nice when it’s cold.

Order a Korean Curry Fish Cutlet for my maid. It comes with a bowl of seaweed soup. My maid said the fish is very crispy and nice and the curry is not spicy at all (maybe to her standards it’s not spicy).

Korean Curry Fish Cutlet – $8.80

Ordered this Saba Fish on hotplate. Fish was very nicely grilled and there’s no fishy taste or smell. Fish tasted soft and nice. Loved it very much. It comes with a bowl of rice and seaweed soup.

Seaweed Soup

There is a promo going on for Kimchi Pork Dumplings and the usual was $4.80 and now it’s $1.99.

I like it very much. Not very spicy and it tasted a bit sour, slightly spicy and the meat very full of juice.

Ah.. this is my favourite. My fav Dang Jar Hotpot (ie Beanpaste Tofu Hotpot). There’s clams, pork slices, tofu and assorted veg in the soup. Yummy :) . Comes with brown rice for this set but I opt for white rice instead

ED ordered Spicy Pork on Hotplate. Comes with a bowl of rice and seaweed soup too. Pork slices were not too spicy and very tender.

Spicy Pork on Hotplate – $9.80

We decided to order desserts to share. Saw these pictures of nice desserts plastered on the wall in the restaurant

We ordered this fruity yogurt ice cream with assorted fruit slices on shaved ice. This taste 200% nicer than the one we had at Ice Monster.

Truly Fruity – $8.80. Comes with strawberry, banana, kiwi, watermelon, pineapple slices and mashmellows. Yummy :)

Total cost for all the food and drinks (we ordered Korean Roasted Barley Tea at $1.20 per pax) = $66.60 (inclusive of all the taxes and charges)

Food is nice and price is quite reasonable. I would definitely go back there again.

Sampo or Nadri Korean BBQ Restaurant???

Had lunch with 2 other colleagues at this Korean Restaurant the other day. It is located near Tanjong Pagar MRT Station.

Took the name card of the restaurant from the namecard stand on the dining table. Realised that the name printed on the namecard differs from the one printed on the tablemat on the dining table. Funny… how come one restaurant have 2 different names… ??? The one printed on the name card showed Sampo Korean Charcoal BBQ Restaurant while the one printed on the tablemat showed Nadri Korean BBQ Restaurant.

We decided to order their bean paste tofu soup set lunch. I had eaten this dish at other korean restaurants before and it contain ingredients like pork slices, tofu, radish, mussels and bean paste all stew together.

I remembered asking the waitress if they use pork or beef for their tofu hotpot and she replied they use pork. However, when we were served the bean paste tofu hotpot, there were only radish and tofu inside. The 3 of us find their servings really small even though we are quite small eaters. I wonder how would male customers feel after having their lunch there. Don’t think it would fill their stomach. Anway we went to Dessert Hut for dessert after lunch as we were still quite hungry.

Even their appetistiers servings were very very little too. These are for the 3 of us to share. Really pathetic,

After lunch, the waitress served us a bowl of plum vinegar each to aid in digestion. It looked, smelled and tasted like diluted cough syrup

We each paid about $12 each (including GST and service charge) but all felt that this place is definitely not worth a second visit.

Awon Korean Restaurant (BBQ & Steamboat Buffet)

Edited on 2 Nov 2008

Read from someone’s posting in a forum that this restaurant had ceased operations with effect from 1 Nov 2008

—————————————————————————————————————————————

ED brought me to this korean bbq & steamboat restaurant at Excelsior hotel for our Vday dinner last Wed. Initially I tot we are eating those sort of stuff offered by Seoul Garden but ED assured me that this is different. I told him I dun wanna smell like I had been cooking in the kitchen after the end of the meal. He smiled and told me I would not. And true enough I din smell of food fumes after the meal and I totally enjoyed the dinner.

After looking through the menu, we decided to have the BBQ and Steamboat buffet.

The owner of the restaurant is a korean lady that is conversant in English. She came with a tray laid with appetister dishes. The buffet includes 6 appetitiser dishes. As I don’t eat kimchi and the preserved radish slices, I asked for them to be remove and kept the other 4 appetitiser dishes on our table. The meal comes with free flow of water.

The waiter came with the steamboat laid full of meat slices and assorted vegetables

Took a look at the buffet table.

Here’s the appetitisers

Lots of veg and mushrooms. My fav :)

Noodles and fishball.. anyone?? I found the fishcake and fishballs too bland for my liking. Did not go for second round after that.

Prawns and Pork Slices

Chicken and Beef Slices

All the meat slices are thinly cut and very well marinated. I only tried the pork and chicken slices as I don’t take beef. The pork and chicken were so tender and succulent. And they goes well with soju. Yah I tried soju for the 1st time in my life. The owner recommended the lemon soju to us. It’s really nice.

We were surprised when the soju came in a teapot. I lifted the lid of the pot and peered inside. There were freshly cut lemon slices floating in the soju inside the teapot. ED said the soju tasted like volka lemon :)

We couldn’t finish all the soju and asked if we could pack the remainder back home. The friendly waitress gladly obliged and poured the remainder soju into a bottle.

So how much did the whole meal cost. With 30% discount for UOB card holders for the buffet dinner only, the dinner cost approx $67. If we hadn’t order the soju the cost would had been lower.

Chowon Garden Korean Restaurant

Went with a friend to have lunch at this Korean restaurant opp URA Building. It offers value for money set lunches and my fav is their Saba set. The set comes with one Saba fillet (big and very meaty and nicely grilled), rice, egg with cabbage soup, a slice of watermelon and 5-6 side dishes nicely presented in a single plate. The set lunch comes with free flow of korean tea.

As usual, I order the Saba set, while my colleague had the tempura prawn set.

Saba Set Lunch (After taxes it cost approx $10)

5 side dishes nicely served in a plate. Some of the side dishes offered changes daily. The only 2 staple side dishes that do not change are kimchi and the ikan bilis.

Juicy meaty piece of Saba Fillet. Yum Yum :)

My friend commented that they gave her alot of huge prawns for her tempura prawns set. Really value-for-money.

I can’t hardly finish everything. There is so much to eat. I really love their set lunch :)
