My Royal Caribbean Cruise (Part 4)

Missed out on posting the pictures of our lunch @ the Fine Dining Restaurant on the 2nd day of our cruise vacation. Here they are.
There’s a salad bar in the centre of the restaurant. You just pick and choose the ingredients you want to have in your salad and the chef will toss it for you.

This is hubby’s salad.

Soup of the Day was Cream of Mushroom.

Mediterrean Tomato Fried Rice with Fresh Prawns and Scallops. The scallops and prawns were very very juicy (feedback from my parents cos they ordered this)

I had this fried catfish with baked peas and boiled potatoes. Totally unappetitizing at all. Wrong choice of mains apparently for me :(

Pork Masala. The meat was tender and succulent. I should have ordered this instead.

Ordered these Prawn skewers for my kid. He said it’s delicious. Looks delicious to me.

Rice Pudding. Nothing really special. Just rice topped with sugar and then bake. Find it too plain for my liking

This seems like a ice cream cake to me. Tasted nice and cold

More desserts. These are the low-fat and sugar free desserts

Low fat Cheesecake with blueberries

Arriving at Port Klang on 14 Dec 2008. We did not disembark to go onland cos seems like there’s nothing much to see also. And the ride to KL takes approx 1.5 hrs. So we decided to stay on board instead.

My Royal Caribbean Cruise – Part 3 (in Penang)

Arriving @ Penang. Saw this long bridge there and saw ferries going to and fro from one part of Penang to the other. There’s even cars and motorcycles on board the ferries. Reminds me of HK.

Hubby and I decided to visit Penang at the last minute since my parents agreed to take care of our kid for us.
As the harbour at Penang aren’t deep enough for this big cruise ship to dock, it had to tendered boats out to ferry the passengers to and fro the ship and the Penang Port.

we went to Komtar for some shopping and then walked a bit to go to a street where u can find lotsa food carts.
Penang looks like a sleepy old town to me

Picture of Royal Caribbean taken from Penang Jetty

More pics taken at Penang Port

Trishaw men enjoying brisk business at the port. Alot of the passengers from the cruise ship took the trishaw ride. We took a cab instead .. haha

See the ferry plying between Penang and its island. See the line of cars queuing to go onboard

Penang Landmarks

Penang Street Scene

This is the shopping centre at Komtar. From the jetty to the shopping centre, the cab ride cost RM8. But the return trip cost twice the amount. Reason is all the cabs in Penang do not comes with a meter and it’s up to the driver to quote you the price. We really felt ripped off on the return trip.

Walking towards the street where you can find all the nice yummy food of Penang sold from carts

this is the coffeeshop which the shoplady at the shopping mall recommended to us. She said their curry mee, fried kway teow and prawn mee are devilicious… and I really have to agree with her… it’s very very delicious.. I cannot find something like that in terms of taste in Singapore

The stallholder cooking the prawn noodles. The soup base was very very thick and hubby said it’s delicious. And it’s only RM3 per bowl.

This bowl of prawn noodles comes with a generous serving of thick prawn stock, slices of boiled pork belly and prawns…. simply yummy beyond words. I ate some of the pork but did not eat the prawns. Shared this with hubby

I only noticed that later on when I view my pics cos I was just snapping away… hee hee… even the lady frying the char kway teow posed for me too.. they are so friendly.

This is the delicious Char Kway Teow. This dish comes with lotsa prawns and the kway teow was very very well fried… I loved it so much. It’s very different from those char kway teow we ate in Singapore. Taste is different. Cost RM3 only

This is the Penang Curry Mee. Look at the soup base. It’s whitish. We were so surprised to see that the soup base is whitish. Totally diff from the curry mee we have in Singapore. The ingredients are also diff from those sold in Singapore. The curry mee here comes with prawns, cuttlefish,  fried tofu and pig’s blood (erm we dump that away. Find it kinda grouse to eat it)

The soup tasted very sweet and delicious… not spicy at all. But when you mixed in that tablespoon of chilli, the dish becomes really spicy and hot and it looks like the curry mee we have in Singapore (but the taste is still diff)

the lady manning the drinks stall asked what drinks I would like to order. I asked her if she has cold green tea that comes canned. She give me a weird look and said “huh? green tea?? erm… dun have”.
In the end I ordered this longan and preserved winter melon drink which she boiled herself. Very nice and delicious. Hubby ordered a glass of iced milo and he said it’s really thick and yummy. I find the pple in Penang are really generous when it comes to putting ingredients in to make a dish taste heavenly. All the food we ordered comes with generous serving of prawns, meat, cuttlefish etc.

more food stalls along this street as we venture further down the street.

more pics of street hawkers

the kuehs from this stall are delicious. Somehow they do not taste the same as those sold in Singapore

Anyone fancy some Lok Lok :)
We did not try this. Simply too full at this point in time.

Desserts stall on wheels. Heard that the desserts here are very very yummy too. Too bad .. din get to try.

This stall selling duck Kway Chap, porridge and rice enjoys a roaring business. See the number of patrons ordering from this stall.

This stall sells Belacan Fried Chicken and Fried Salted Fish Flavoured Tofu. The saltish smell of the fried chicken and tofu can be smelled a distance away. Hubby bought 2 chicken wings from this stall and he said it’s the nicest and most delicious chicken wings he had ever tasted.

My Royal Caribbean Cruise Vacation (Part 2)

After our sumptous dinner at the Fine Dining Restaurant, we strolled along the decks, enjoying the cool night breezes.

We went to the Grand Theatre at around 10 pm to find a good seat for the musical performances later on at 10.30 pm.

The show lasted an hour.

The show on the first name is titled “From the 50s to 90s”. It featured songs from the 50s all the way to the 90s.

Let the show begin.

Start of the show. Lots of singing and dancing by the performers.

More musical pics

Show ended at approx 11.30 pm. There’s late night supper buffet going on at deck 9 poolside cafe. I was too tired to even walk up there to take a look. And I was still feeling so full after the sumptous dinner at the fine dining restaurant so I gave supper a miss.

We would be arriving in Penang the next day. Looking forward to it :)

My Royal Caribbean Cruise Vacation (Part 1)

Booked our cruise vacation on the Royal Caribbean to Penang and KL in Jun during a roadshow. For balcony class and above promo, one kid travel for free with every 2 paying adults. This cruise experience was worth every bit of the $$.
12 Dec 2008: Preparing to board the ship at 11 am. Arrived at the Cruise centre at 10 am to check in our luggage and clear the immigration. Picture of the ship taken from Singapore Cruise Centre

Can u see the rock wall?? I did not try rock climbing… hee hee but it does looks interesting

Side view of the cruise ship

We can’t go to the room yet as our luggage had yet to be sent to the room. So we were ushered to the pool side cafe for lunch first.
Picture of the pool area

Did not managed to take much food pics cos we were too hungry…. only managed to take a few shots.
The mashed potatoes were very very delicious.
Hubby had the roasted beef with mashed potatoes and hash brown.

Desserts… oh my I am spoilt for choice. There’s so many to choose from.
The buffet offered a wide selection of bread, salads, mains, desserts, fruits and soups. My parents loved all the fresh plums, mangos, guavas, berries etc.
I like this low fat sugar free lemon cheese cake. The lychee cake (the white and pink cake) is delicious too. Hubby loved the choc swiss roll

Brownie and a nice choc chip cookie. It’s huge and it’s nicer than the ones we had at Famous Amos. The cookie selections are wide too. So many diff types of cookies to choose from.
I love the jelly. It’s soft and not too sweet.

okie.. time to go to our room… here’s the foyer area. See the glass lifts

Passage area leading to the rooms

Games Room and the Library

The Foyer area is on deck 4 where the piano lounge is. The library and games room are on deck 7 where we are staying.

Dressing table. There’s a safe, a fridge and coffee & tea making facilities available in the room. There’s a comp monitor that screens cartoons and shows. They just finished screening the movie Mamma Mia when we just got into the room. Managed to catch the last part of the show only

There’s a phone in every room. It’s just like any hotel room. I really loved my room

Here’s the toilet and shower area

Shower area. It is separated from the toilet area via a shower curtain

We had dinner at the Romeo & Juliet Dining Room. The 1st night of sailing was the Fine Dining Night. Ladies are to come dressed in evening dresses while men comes in suits and tux.
We bought a tux for our kid :) . He looked really suave dressed in a tux.
Romeo & Juliet Dining room are spilt into 2 decks. We were assigned a table in deck 4. Every table are assigned a head waiter, waiter and asst waiter to serve you throughout your entire stay on the cruise. Very very excellent service.

Staircase leading to deck 5 of the dining room

if you dun have a tux .. u can always rent it. They offered tux rental service on board too. I think cos it’s their 1st sailing from Asia, they are very very lenient with pple who are not dressed up. I see some Singaporeans coming in in jeans and t-shirt. Sigh. But there are quite a number who dressed to the theme. I dolled up my mom too. She was thrilled :)

There’s casino and jackpot machines too.. more pics on that to follow later

Here’s the menu for the Appetisters and Soups

We ordered the Sweet Corn Soup and Lobster Bisque.
See all the cultery on the table and the different types of glasses. That’s the butter dish in the centre

Beautiful flower in a vase. The wine menu is behind the pepper container. We took the wine package where you can select any 5 wines from the menu for the price of USD123. The price comes to USD147.95 after including gratuities (which is their service charge)

We opened a bottle of Shiraz to go with our dinner that night. Hubby order a tenderloin while I had Grilled Sea Bass. I loved the wine. Very nice.

Hubby had the Fillet of Beef

I had the Golden Sea Bass. The sea bass was so soft and juicy. I really loved this main alot.

The waiter ordered this dish for us to try. He highly recommended this and said we could share and taste this duck dish amongst ourselves. My kid loved this dish alot cos the meat was very very tender and succulent.
The service by the waiter and his asst was exellent too.

Dessert Menu

Cherries Jubilee. We did not ordered this but the waiter brought it to us for tasting. He said it’s very very delicious. Indeed it is. The cherries were juicy and it’s not sweet at all. The vanilla ice cream complements this cherries very well.

Low Fat Double Strawberry Cheesecake. It tasted really nice and fluffy. Very soft and not too sweet. Yummy.

Sugar-Free Coconut Vanilla Layer Cake. This cake is very delicious as well. Being sugar-free, it allows diabetics to enjoy this dessert as well.

Sugar Free Choc Ice Cream and Lime Sorbert

After a sumptious dinner, we took a stroll on the top deck of the ship to enjoy the night breeze and scenery while waiting for the musical to start at 1030pm at the grand theatre.
The pool looks so beautiful at night
