Ci Yin Vegetarian House

Had dinner with my family at this vegetarian cafe at Serangoon North Ave 1. It is famous for its vegetarian zi char dishes.

Reached there slightly before six and we were lucky to get a table there. Today is the 15 th of the lunar month and it’s packed with patrons.

Ordered their famous and very popular Fried Fish Steamboat. The soup base is very tasty and it’s well flavoured with Chinese Herbs and lots of other types of veg and mushrooms.

Some of the herbs used are dang gui slices and wolfberries. The soup tasted a little tangy due to the tomatoes added into it.

This dish is Fried Mushroom Strips stir-fried in mushroom sauce with Bok Choy. Mushroom had never tasted this delicious till now :)

My kid wanna have noodles for dinner and I am not sure if the Chiang Mai Noodles might be too spicy for him. In the end I decided to order salmon for him instead.

The waiter was very very sensitive… he brought a small portion of the noodles for my kid to try and also asked the chef to specially prepare this tomato sauce pasta dish for him (just in case he doesn’t like the noodles). I was really touched by his gesture. In the end I cancelled our order for the salmon fish cos it’s too much for my kid to finish.

My kid loves both the noodles and the pasta dish.

Hong Yuen Seafood

Went to try out the fishhead steamboat @ Blk 123 Yishun St 11 after surfers recommended this place.
The Zi Char Stall is called Hong Yuen Seafood. When I asked the chef for permission to take the pic, he was pretty reluctant but later agreed to it after I told him I would be posting it online.

We ordered this Sweet and Sour Pork to supplement the fishhead steamboat.
The serving was alot and it cost only $6.

Ordered this Kong Pow Diced Chicken Rice for my maid. She said it’s very very very delicious. haha :D
Cost $4 for all these. It’s quite alot of chicken. Looks yummy too.

Here’s the famous fishhead steamboat.
The amount of veg, yam slices, fried fishhead pieces and tofu were aplenty. The serving is enough to feed another 3 mre adults. It’s too much for us.
Soup was flavourful and I have to say this one taste much better than the Tian Wai Tian Fishhead Steamboat.
We loved the soup so much that we asked for more soup to be added. And the difference between Tian Wai Tian and Hong Yuen is that for soup topup here, the chef gives you the same thick soup base used to serve the intiial serving of the fishhead steamboat. For Tian Wai Tian, the soup top up is clear chicken/fish bone soup. Not so flavourful.
Fishhead Steamboat cost $22. Uses Groupa.

My Royal Caribbean Cruise (Part 4)

Missed out on posting the pictures of our lunch @ the Fine Dining Restaurant on the 2nd day of our cruise vacation. Here they are.
There’s a salad bar in the centre of the restaurant. You just pick and choose the ingredients you want to have in your salad and the chef will toss it for you.

This is hubby’s salad.

Soup of the Day was Cream of Mushroom.

Mediterrean Tomato Fried Rice with Fresh Prawns and Scallops. The scallops and prawns were very very juicy (feedback from my parents cos they ordered this)

I had this fried catfish with baked peas and boiled potatoes. Totally unappetitizing at all. Wrong choice of mains apparently for me :(

Pork Masala. The meat was tender and succulent. I should have ordered this instead.

Ordered these Prawn skewers for my kid. He said it’s delicious. Looks delicious to me.

Rice Pudding. Nothing really special. Just rice topped with sugar and then bake. Find it too plain for my liking

This seems like a ice cream cake to me. Tasted nice and cold

More desserts. These are the low-fat and sugar free desserts

Low fat Cheesecake with blueberries

Arriving at Port Klang on 14 Dec 2008. We did not disembark to go onland cos seems like there’s nothing much to see also. And the ride to KL takes approx 1.5 hrs. So we decided to stay on board instead.

Delicious Dumplings @ Fong Kee

It’s one of our colleague’s last day and we decided to have lunch @ Fong Kee before they moved to their new location at North Bridge Road. They used to be located at Murray Terrace and are not in the midst of moving over to their new location in Jun 2008.

Decor in the old restaurant @ Murray Terrace

We ordered quite a lot of food and we had a hard time finishing them.

Pan-fried gyozas. You dip the gyoza in the vinegar to enhance its taste. Take a bit of ginger shred to complement it. Tasted really great.

See how thin the skin is and the gyozas have so much meat filling in them.

We also ordered Boiled Dumplings and Xiao Long Bao (Steamed Meat Dumplings) too.

Also ordered their honey pork chops. Very very nice and tender. Really love the pork chops.

We also ordered Braised Bean Sauce Noodles. The noodles were very springy and delicious. Just that we were too full to finish it. Really should had ordered so much food.

We round up the meal with these delicious pan-fried red bean paste pancake topped with roasted sesame. Simply yummy.

Fong Kee also has a delivery service. Details taken from the website, no number given at the website though, you’ll have to refer to the namecard below I think; the delivery tel no is 62203318

They have a few outlets and one of them is at People’s Park.

Blk 32 New Market Road #01-1148
People’s Park Centre Singapore 050032
Tel: 6532 3318

@ Murray Terrace is closed and would be moving to 787 North Bridge Road in Jun 2008.

Vegetarian Buffet Lunch @ Grand Court Restaurant

Am on Vegetarian diet today and so Hyacinthus suggested we have lunch at this vegetarian restaurant @ Chinatown.
Started my lunch with some refreshing salad which you DIY at the buffet counter.

Vegetarian Kway Chap. Very nice. The Kway Teow was very Q. The mock meat are not very salty too.

A smiley mocked intestine

Some of the Veg dim sum available.

More veg dim sum

Buffet includes fried olive rice, fried kway teow mee, tofu, assorted stir fried veg, veg curry etc. Food in general is not salty or sweet and not too oily too.

Buffet includes desserts like fruits, some kuehs and red bean soup

I would say the food is only avg (in my humble opinion).
And being small eaters, me and Hya din ate alot. Intially we wanna order ala carte but when we looked at the menu prices we felt it’s more worth to have the buffet instead.

Buffet is only available for lunch only.

Here’s the cost

Lunch @ Moi Lum

Had quite a nice lunch @ Moi Lum Restaurant today. We ordered the set lunch ($50 for 3-4 pax) and the Sharks Fin with Crab Meat Omelette

We replaced the Majestic Crispy Fried Chicken with Braised Roast Pork with Yam and add an additional $4 for it.

First Dish – Crab Meat Fish Maw Soup. Tasted quite nice and there were alot of fish maw in the soup. 1 small pot serves 6. There’s only 3 of us so each of us had 2 bowls each. By the end of the second bowl I was quite full to eat the other dishes

Second Dish – Crab Meat with Sharksfin omelette. This is the extra ala-carte dish we ordered. Take a bit of the omelette and wrap it with lettuce before eating it. Dish was ok but nothing to rave about. $30 for this dish.

Third Dish – Mustard Leaves Paired with Abalone Mushrooms. The mushrooms tasted really nice and it tasted almost like the real abalone. A light and refreshing dish

Fourth Dish – Braised Roast Pork with Yam. This dish was not bad. Yam was well braised in the Nan Ru sauce.

Fifth Dish – Salted egg Spring Roll.

The dessert was quite nice. It’s handmade mango pudding with cocktail. Pudding was soft and not too sweet.

Keep to Your Left on the Escalator !!

Am rushing to catch the MRT to work and was running up the right side of the escalator in the MRT station when I was blocked by this fellow in front of me who decided to stop advancing up the escalator.

Let’s call this person IP (Inconsiderate Person). I kept staring at IP’s back hoping that IP would just walk up the steps and at the same time silently scolding IP in my mind. I mean it’s perfectly alright if IP decided not to walk up the escalator but then he could had just stand to the left of the escalator instead and let those people who are rushing to catch their trains walk or run up on the right side of it.

Don’t you feel so irritated at times when you see people who do not want to walk up the escalator and stand on the right side of it and ‘jam’ up the whole place? Those people standing behind such IPs can only look at one another helplessly. And had you ever seen some people who were really rushing for the train trying to squeeze past such IP only to get irritated stares from the IP?

Ever tried to tell such Inconsiderate Person off for blocking your path when you were rushing to catch your train on the right side of the escalator? Would you dare to tell him/ her off that he/she is blocking other people’s way and that he/she should stand to the left instead?
